It is a well-known fact that our diet plays an important role in controlling our physical health. But did you know that it can affect our mental health equally? Spoiler alert, it can if you didn’t. You must have seen foods that are called mood-boosting foods. Similarly, some food varieties, despite being irresistible and delicious, can lead to a deteriorating mental state. Read on to learn about some of the foods that can make you sad.

Here are some foods that can make you sad:

Sweet treats:

Avoiding sweet food may not be as easy as it sounds but you must do it for the sake of your health. Consuming excessive sugar can lead to an imbalance in the gut microbiome which can affect mood to a great extent. Therefore, moderate consumption should be ensured.

Gluten:

One does not need to suffer from gluten intolerance or gluten allergy to follow a gluten-free diet. Although more research is needed to back the claim, some studies have shed light on a growing example of gluten’s link to poor mental health. Therefore, it is advisable to limit its intake in the daily diet. Some common sources of gluten include wheat, cereals, pasta, etc.

French Fries:

Trust us, we know how delicious french fries are, but we also know that they may not be the healthiest food option. French fries are fried foods that are loaded with salt. When consumed, it can easily lead to an unhealthy intake of salt and oil. It is a source of trans fat which is also known to increase the risk of depression.

Processed Foods:

In our daily life, we come across different types of processed foods like cheese, biscuits, etc. However, if you’re trying to dodge anxiety, sadness, or depression, it’s important that you stay away from processed foods because they can harm your health.

White rice:

Consuming refined carbohydrates can increase the risk of depression and rice is a popular source of the same. In a country like India where rice is one of the staple foods, eliminating it from the diet couldn’t be easier. But to ensure a healthy mind and body, one should try to limit its intake as much as possible.
