These organs work tirelessly towards filtering out excess water and waste from the blood, commonly known as urine. The kidneys are an important organ as they help the body get rid of toxic waste and play an important role in the excretory system.

You’re missing out on hydration:

About 60 percent of the human body is made up of water. This makes it necessary to keep the body well hydrated to ensure its efficient functioning. Human kidneys can also be significantly damaged in case of dehydration.

You can’t say ‘no’ to sodium:

Salt is a commonly used ingredient that can significantly enhance the taste of any dish. While it is true that it is important to maintain a healthy level of sodium in the body, excessive sodium intake can lead to high blood pressure which can lead to kidney damage. To maintain a healthy salt intake, one must pay attention to one’s diet and avoid processed foods, fried foods, and fast foods.

You are drinking your health:

Health complications such as liver damage, heart problems, etc. are well known from the consumption of alcohol. However, did you know that excessive consumption of alcohol can also damage the kidneys? Consumption of alcohol can increase the risk of kidney failure from the adverse effects of high blood pressure and hence should be avoided.

You have been taking a lot of painkillers.

In recent times, the use of painkillers has become extremely common. While it is true that sometimes their use can be unavoidable, however, experts recommend avoiding it when possible. This is because the use of pain-relieving drugs, especially nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs, may increase the risk of kidney damage.

You smoke:

If you are a regular smoker, quit. If you are an occasional smoker, quit. No matter what kind of smoker you classify yourself as quitting. The ill-effects of smoking are well known but that doesn’t stop people from having that ‘one’ puff. Among the various health complications that may arise due to smoking, an increased risk of kidney cancer can also be potential.
